I encountered my first Jazzy Bagel at a writers workshop about a year ago. Instead of sugary doughnuts and cherry danish for the morning break, the clever organizer brought in bagels and cream cheese instead. My first reaction? Omigosh, they’re huge! But once that first bite of chewy dough hit my tastebuds, my thoughts quickly changed to Wow! These are really good.
Sorry, I can’t tell you what kind of bagel hooked me on that morning long ago. A week or so after the workshop, I tracked them back to their source in Gresham, OR, and have since consumed many more in a variety of flavors. And they’ve all been really good.
Jazzy Bagels currently has 19 different flavors on its menu–everything from sesame, cinnamon raisin, and sun-dried tomato to garlic, asagio cheese and poppy seed. Enjoy them plain or toasted, and slathered generously with one of nine different house-made cream cheeses. While not quite endless, the combinations are certainly enough to keep you coming back again and again.
Need something a little more substantial first thing in the morning? Try one of their breakfast bagels. Scrambled eggs and Tillamook Cheese along with your choice of ham, bacon, or sausage. Peppers, tomatoes, and spinach available for just $1 more.
And don’t forget Jazzy Bagels for lunch! How about a bagel with lox, cream cheese, onion, and capers? Not quite your style? For more traditional appetites, they have a burger bagel and the ultimate in comfort food—the Tillamook Cheddar Cheese Bagel Dog. A Thumann brand hot dog wrapped in bagel dough and pulled fresh from the oven at 11 am every day. But be there early, or place your order beforehand, because these puppies disappear fast.
They also offer a variety of hot panini and deli-style sandwiches served on hearty bread as well as bagels, along with home style soups and salads. Dessert? Try one of their chocolate chip bagels or a blueberry bagel topped with wild berry cream cheese. Mmmmm. Or maybe some hard-packed ice cream.
The folks at Jazzy Bagels have been making fresh bagels daily since 1999. The interior is bright and airy with orange, lime green, and lemon yellow accents. Seating available on both sides of a double-sided fireplace, which is a nice addition during the winter rainy season. The walls are covered with jazz-themed artwork and vintage photos of Gresham, OR. And there’s a baby grand piano smack dab in the middle of the dining area. Why? They have live piano jazz from 11am to 1pm every Saturday.
Jazzy Bagels is located at the corner of Main Street and Powell Boulevard in downtown Gresham, OR. Centrally located whether you want to shop the nearby historic district, or just make a quick stop on your way to Mount Hood. Good food, reasonable prices, and ample parking outside.
